The management of a modern orthodontic case requires an integrated approach to diagnosis, treatment planning, movement control, space management and finishing, bringing together both the clinical and dental laboratory perspectives.

Interproximal reduction (IPR) is a clinical procedure of particular relevance in orthodontic treatment with clear aligners.

Dr Federico Perrini will explore the biological and clinical principles of interproximal reduction, focusing on its indications, contraindications and main clinical protocols. Particular attention will be given to digital IPR planning, the assessment of the amount of enamel to be removed, the selection of the most appropriate instruments and techniques, and the management of different clinical situations.

The course will also address key aspects related to the safety and predictability of the procedure, with the aim of correctly integrating IPR into the treatment plan and achieving stable, controlled aesthetic and functional outcomes.

Dental Technician Mimmo Castellana will focus on the laboratory perspective, showing how the virtual setup, digital file preparation and tooth segmentation can influence the digital assessment of available space, contact points and collisions.

The core of the course will be to develop a deeper understanding of how to manage IPR in a more informed, precise and predictable way, to understand what happens between actual clinical treatment and digital planning, and ultimately to improve communication between the clinician and the dental laboratory.

Target Audience

Orthodontists and dentists interested in the clinical and digital management of orthodontic cases, with a particular focus on space management, IPR, and effective communication between the dental practice and laboratory.

Course Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • understand the principles and objectives of interproximal reduction (IPR) in orthodontic treatment;
  • identify the main indications and contraindications for IPR;
  • correctly assess the amount, location and distribution of the required interproximal reduction;
  • correctly interpret and use digital IPR planning;
  • select the appropriate instruments and clinical techniques according to the specific clinical situation;
  • apply IPR protocols focused on safety and precision;
  • prevent and manage the main complications and critical issues associated with the procedure;
  • understand the importance of accuracy in the virtual setup process and why effective communication between the dental laboratory, aligner manufacturer and clinician is essential.
Course registration includes

  • Half-day theoretical and practical course
  • Coffee break
  • Certificate of attendance
